In March 2018 I bought the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" on a bit of a whim. I love a list, I had some time to kill in town and I was intrigued as to what would be listed.
Flicking through the pages looking for albums I'd heard ... bought as vinyl ... bought on CD ... downloaded ... loved or hated, I saw this book was more than just a catalogue of significant music, it was a celebration of many things we love about albums - the music of course, the covers, but also the stories about the albums and the people who made them. I quickly became lost in music ( ... caught in a trap).
So I started to listening to some of the records I'd never heard, and my ears opened to new (to me) genres and bands. Bands I should have heard of but hadn't, genres I thought I wouldn't like, but did. The book has changed my tastes and broadened my knowledge. But I was often wondering what to listen to next.
And then my inner geek took hold and I thought, "Wouldn't it be great to have something pick an album at random for me. So I found an online listing based on the 2005 edition of the book created a database and built this site. If you register you can track what you've heard and have albums selected for you that you haven't heard yet.
I hope you enjoy exploring this site and the music it will take you, whether its new to you or if you are revisiting a long forgotten favourite.
If you register you will be able to.
